"Los Guauchos have always been weirdos," says the percussionist of the group from Formosa

Originally from Formosa, the group Guauchos transcended the borders of the province, revolutionizing folklore with their own style that fuses rock, psychedelia and traditional rhythms such as chacarera, zamba and guarania . Innovative, with a fresh and modern sound, they return to the Buenos Aires stages to preview what will be their third album. The event will be on March 9th, at 8pm, at La Tangente (Honduras 5317, CABA), with Gauchos of The Pampa as special guests to open the night. This presentation will be preceded by the launch, on Thursday 6th, of their newest song: Monedas por amor.
Since their formation in 2005, the band has revolutionized the music scene with their sound. During these years of experience they played on stages all over the country, in addition to touring Europe. Their first album, Pago , won the Gardel Award for Best New Folklore Artist Album. After a break of several years, the band reunited in 2023 to tour the country. As a result of this reunion, this new material was born, which will be released as a full album during 2025. Guauchos is made up of Federico Baldus (vocals, guitars), Lucas Caballero (vocals, guitars), Juan Manuel Ramírez (percussion, programming), Juan Miguel Castellani (guitars), Gastón Benítez (keyboards and synthesizers), Matías Romero (violin) and Agustín Garay (bass). And they have the particularity of participating in both folklore and rock festivals. This is what Ramírez said in an exclusive interview via Zoom:
After a period of solo projects, the band returned in 2023 with a tour of the main cities of the country and the following year they went into the studio under the production of Ale Vázquez, they are presenting the first cut Tanta Ilusión, with string arrangements by Alejandro Terán. They worked on this new album together with producer Ale Vázquez and have the lyrics of " Fernando Barrientos, who is living in Barcelona - revealed Juan Manuel during the interview - and his pen is very thick. He has a great capacity to transmit with words . By blows we understood what it was about and a year ago we decided to start working on our album, after eight years of going very slowly, and that's when we started working with Vázquez, who comes from rock. He helped us synthesize everything we want to say, because he believes that there is a lot of richness in words."
The percussionist also acknowledged that "we have always been the odd ones out. Both at folklore and rock festivals, although we feel more like rockers than folklorists. We have shared the stage with great figures of both genres. But it is our identity and it is the best thing we have, the musical mix is part of our essence. Just think that in one year we played at Cosquín Folklore and for 10 days at Cosquín Rock. It was very good." Now we will have them back in the Federal Capital, to enjoy their prodigious melodies and new lyrics in their songs. Find more information about tickets here .
